Sad-but-understanding face.

Ex-Rockstar Employee Says GTA 6 ‘Won’t Be Revealed Anytime Soon’

It’s sad news for GTA fans as an ex-Rockstar employee has shattered the idea of seeing Grand Theft Auto 6 anytime soon.

The claim comes from a call between equity research firm Jefferies and video games insider, Darion Lowenstein. Lowenstein’s impressive career in video games has seen him serve as a producer with some of the biggest names in AAA development – including none other than Rockstar Games.

According to a press release from Jefferies, Lowenstein stated that we’re “not to expect GTA 6 any time soon,” and reaffirmed that Rockstar places “all their emphasis on game quality rather than hitting a deadline.”

Interestingly, Lowenstein also suggested that we won’t be seeing GTA 6 hit the shelves until at least 2021 – and that’s if everything goes to plan with development.

“His absolute best-case-scenario for a game release is Holiday 2021, though he does not expect an announcement / trailer anytime soon,” says the press release.

“We’ve seen online rumors and have heard client speculation that a trailer could drop as early as next month, but Darion’s take is that investors / gamers will have to wait longer.”

As always, take this rumour with a pinch of salt, but it does make sense considering the general timeline of the upcoming next-gen consoles. The next Xbox and the PlayStation 5 will be dropping during the holiday period this year, and a 2021 or early 2022 release will give a lot of breathing room for the consoles.

We’ve heard a lot of rumours about GTA 6 and its development, but where we are in its lifecycle is a complete mystery. Rockstar has yet to even formally announce that the game exists, meaning we’re definitely going to be in the dark for what’s surely going to be one of the biggest games of the generation.
