The AAA video games scene is often fraught with controversy, especially when it comes to big companies like EA. The company, which has come under fire countless times in the past, is still criticised by gamers to this day but there’s a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things. Swearing and spitting? Yeah, that’s a big nope.
Unfortunately, that’s just what pro FIFA player Kurt ‘Kurt0411’ Fenech has done, and it’s landed him with a ban.
In a livestreamed FIFA match, Kurt0411 was heard saying: “Son of a b*tch. You can’t beat me, even on this piece of trash game. F*** you, EA.”
Presumably because his expletives weren’t quite enough to get his anger across, Kurt then picked up a scarf brandishing the EA logo, and spit on it.
EA has since released a statement on the incident, confirming that Kurt has now been slapped with “disqualification from all EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series competition and any future events scheduled beyond this season – effective immediately.”
If you think the punishment is a little harsh here it’s important to note that this isn’t the first time that Kurt has been vocal about his opinions on EA. The pro gamer has actually been issued multiple bans from EA in the past, including one back in March of this year.
This ban was a “Final Warning” for the player, so it seems likely that he won’t be getting another chance.
“Kurt0411 had many chances and we were explicit that each subsequent violation would result in escalated penalties,” EA said.
“The above violations go beyond acceptable ‘smack talk’ as the consistent harassment targeting fellow players, EA employees, and a previous on-air talent during the live broadcast, are unacceptable.”
Kurt has now issued his own statement, writing: “The only way for me to not get banned was to not make any videos and to never stream again. I’m a pretty emotional guy, I will say the first thing that comes to my mind and in today’s world that is deemed a crime.
“I have no idea what’s going to happen moving forward, all I know is this ‘esport’ has officially died.”
