Friday the 13th: The Game publisher, Gun Media, has revealed during an official forum post some bad news. The dedicated servers for the asymmetrical multiplayer horror game are being shut down.

Naturally, the discontinuation of the dedicated servers will concern any active fan. That doesn’t mean that Friday the 13th is being slashed entirely.

In the forum post Lead Community Developer, Matt Shotcha, expressed the disappointment that some fans will be feeling. He said “All things must come to an end,

The team at Gun wants to thank each and every player and fan that has made Friday the 13th: The Game what it is today.

Fans of Friday the 13th will be pleased to know that the game will continue to live on. It will not just be submerged into the depths of Camp Crystal Lake!

Despite the dedicated servers being discontinued the online multiplayer will revert back to peer-to-peer with the database servers still remaining active. These will still house player progression and unlocks.

What Does This Mean For Friday the 13th: The Game Online Multiplayer?

With the database server still remaining active, it means that players will still be able to play. It just means these players will have to play private and public online matches via hosted servers.

Some fans may have issues with multiplayer relying on a peer-to-peer connection. Why’s that?Due to what peer-to-peer connection means. If a hosting player leaves the match or loses connection, the match will end and everyone will get kicked out.

Peer-to-peer was the online approach during the 2017 launch of Friday the 13th. As you can imagine it brought its fair share of problems before developers Illfonic reverted to dedicated servers.

However, there is some good news. In the same forum post, it was revealed that double XP, CP, and Tape drop rates will remain active indefinitely.
