Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon gets its first full trailer

The first full trailer for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has finally been released.

It looks like we’re heading back to Westeros pretty soon. Game of Thrones didn’t exactly end in the greatest way, but HBO is looking to make us forget about that with this new show. And judging by the first trailer, it looks like it could be just what fantasy fans are looking for.

The new trailer shows off some new dragons, conflicts in King’s Landing and the makings of a brutal war. Anyone who watched Game of Thrones should recognise some of the iconography in the trailer, like the dragon egg and the Iron Throne.

The trailer focuses on the new characters, including a new batch of Targaryens. The show is set before the events of Game of Thrones when the Targaryens still ruled over Westeros.

House of the Dragon Cast

New characters include Daemon Targaryen and Princess Rhaenyra. Daemon is played by Matt Smith, known for Doctor Who and The Crown, while Rhaenyra is played by Emma D’Arcy.

These two characters seem to be set up for some kind of conflict. If you’ve read about the history of the Targaryens, you’ll probably have a good idea of where the story is headed. But for those who haven’t, there’s sure to be some twists and turns ahead.

Other cast members include Alicent Hightower played by Olivia Cooke, Paddy Considine as King Viserys and Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon. The show also features Graham McTavish, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno.

House of the Dragon premieres August 21st on HBO Max. It has a lot to live up to after the incredibly strong start that Game of Thrones had, so hopefully HBO can knock it out of the park with this prequel.
