Gamers Are Disappointed With Xbox Games Showcase

Yesterday (July 23) saw Microsoft unveil some of its upcoming games to the world as part of the Xbox Games Showcase. Everything from Halo Infinite gameplay to the announcement of a new Fable was present, in what I personally thought was a fantastic show. However, it seems I’m in the minority.

Social media has been flooded with people who are disappointed with the Showcase, with many gamers criticising Xbox for the whole event.

“So Playstation gets Spiderman and We get F*ckin Tetris but with Music,” tweeted one angry gamer in a post which has now seen over four thousand likes.

Another user responded: “I’m so disappointed. As a long time player on Xbox, I moved to PS4 last year and it has been the best year of gaming in my life. Seeing this event was really embarrassing because it sucks so much and they didn’t do anything good.”

Others branded the Showcase as “disappointing,” while some claimed that Sony has already won these so-called “console wars.”

People were very quick to dismiss a number of the games shown, and even the highly-anticipated Halo Infinite received heavy criticism after one of the game’s screenshots was shared to Twitter. The screenshot in question, admittedly, looks pretty bad. But it’s a work-in-progress game, people!

Personally, Xbox absolutely isn’t my go-to platform, but the show definitely impressed myself and (most) of the GameByte team. It had hecking Fable!!

Whether or not you subscribe to the notion of “console wars,” or if you were just disappointed in the Xbox Showcase anyway, Twitter user Ains got it right when they tweeted the following:

“Honestly, I don’t understand how you can watch the PlayStation and Xbox showcases, know we have the PS5 and Series X coming this fall, and still be disappointed in any way. The variety and breadth of games coming is staggering. It’s never been a better time to be a gamer.”

What were your opinions on the Showcase?
