Gamescom has been confirmed to once again have a physical event in Cologne, Germany, but there will be an online alternative as well.
Due to the pandemic, Gamescom has been unable to hold a physical event for the past two years. But now, at least for the time being, a physical event will take place later this summer. It will take place at the Koelnmesse convention centre from August 24 to 28.
The event will be separated into various areas, such as an entertainment and a business area. As well as sections for cosplay, retro, and indie fans. The press release did not go into specifically how the online portion will work. But it will supposedly feature the same kind of content as mentioned.
Felix Falk, managing director of game (the association of the German games industry) said, “This year we are combining the best of both worlds: our extensive digital program with the incomparable Gamescom experience on-site.” Falk also touched on the ‘Gamescom goes green’ project, where the event “as a whole will be designed to be climate-neutral over the medium and long term.”
As well as this, the event organisers are working hard to make sure that the event will be safe to attend. A hygiene and safety concept that has been tested many times by the event centre, Koelnmesse, will be in use at Gamescom. This includes things like extra-wide aisles and limited ticket allotments.
