According to reports, Gears of War developer The Coalition is working on Gears 6, as well as a new IP.
The reports come courtesy of industry insider Jeff Grubb in his latest episode of Game Mess from his YouTube channel.
As Grubb states in the video, it’s pretty much a given that The Coalition will be working on a Gears of War 6 – it’s one of Microsoft’s money-making IPs and it makes sense to continue on with that popular series.
However, Grubb also says that The Coalition is helping 343 Industries in developing (or helping to fix) Halo Infinite. As we all know, Halo Infinite was supposed to be an Xbox Series X|S launch title, before it was delayed into 2021.
So if all goes well and with The Coalition lending a helping hand to 343 Industries, Halo Infinite should be on track to release later this year.
Seeing as The Coalition will reportedly be working on Gears 6 and helping out with Halo Infinite, the studio is very busy at this time. However, despite this, Grubb also claims that the studio is working on a new IP.
Grubb can’t confirm the claim, but he’s apparently heard similar pieces of information from a number of sources.
Grubb goes on to state he’s heard reports that The Coalition might be working on a new Star Wars game for Microsoft, though Grubb doesn’t believe those reports to carry much weight at this time.

Personally, as much as I am a fan of the Gears of War series, I feel that the franchise has gotten a little stale with recent releases. They’re all solid enough games, but the series has been lacking any original ideas lately.
I agree with Jeff Grubb that The Coalition is obviously a very talented studio and it will be interesting to see it potentially work on a new IP. As unlikely as it might be, the speculated Star Wars game could be an intriguing concept.
However, at this time all these reports are unconfirmed speculation, so we must take them with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
