Free-to-play game Genshin Impact has made a whopping $2 billion in its debut year. What’s more impressive, that’s just on mobile devices.
Genshin Impact is an action/adventure RPG that was released for mobile, PC and PlayStation 4 in September 2020. Before arriving to PlayStation 4 in April this year.
It’s been quite clear that Genshin Impact has been one of the most successful free-to-play games in recent years, but to make $2 billion in its first year on Google Play and the App Store alone, is very impressive indeed.
As reported by Kotaku, despite only existing for a year, Genshin Impact is currently the third most financially successful mobile game. Only, Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile are currently topping the popular RPG. Furthermore, as of September 28th (RE3 day by the way), Genshin Impact also has almost 10 million pre-registrations and is more popular than Fortnite on Twitch.
Genshin Impact shows how a free-to-play mobile game can be done right. It’s not only a big money-maker for publisher/developer miHoYo, but it’s also a quality RPG. There is a reason why it has made its way onto PS4 and PS5. On average, according to PC Gamer, the average players spend a total average of around $12 million a day.
Recently events such as bringing Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West have proven to be popular limited-time events for the RPG. Better still, Aloy was a free 5-star character.
