Santa Monica Studio is looking for new staff members, and it’s all but confirmed that the project they’re needed on is the sequel to 2019’s iconic God of War.
Okay, okay, we know that this has been coming for a while, but it doesn’t make the news any less exciting.
As spotted by GamesRadar, a spate of new of job listings have appeared on the Sony Santa Monica careers website. With roles ranging from combat design to narrative help, there’s a surprising amount of evidence out here in the open for all to see.
One of the roles advertised which looks for a Senior Combat Designer states that applicants “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies.”
Again, not too surprisingly, one of the other listings references the next generation of video games consoles, stating that “next-gen video game platform experience is desirable.”
So, it looks like we’re not only finally getting some movement on God of War 2, but that it’s basically confirmed for the PlayStation 5. Again, this isn’t something unexpected, as the next generation of consoles will hit the shelves next year.
God of War 2018 was a heart-wrenchingly beautiful take on family and love with a large helping of Norse and Greek mythology, a side of fantastic combat and a whole heap of exciting gameplay.
The mammoth success of the game has since spawned a documentary about the ups and downs of developing such a title, and at last count the game has earned itself over 50 awards, including everything from sound design accolades to the elusive Game Of The Year award at The Game Awards 2018.
It also ended on one helluva cliffhanger, meaning a sequel is only a matter of time…
