Gotham Knights Co-Op Lets You Share The City Without Restrictions

The upcoming Gotham Knights might not be the Arkham game we were hoping for, but it’s definitely looking pretty exciting from what we’ve seen so far.

The game takes place in a world where Batman is dead, and you’ll play as characters including Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood. With a focus on themes of family and togetherness, you’ll need to take down the Court of Owls in the sprawling city of Gotham.

With a focus on family, it’s of course natural that Gotham Knights’ co-op modes is as inclusive and free from restrictions as possible, ant thankfully, that appears to be the case.

Speaking with Official PlayStation Magazine this month, Gotham Knights’ creative director Patrick Redding explained that the game will allow players to share the same open world. By using drop-in, drop-out co-op, the game will let players play together without having to be standing right next to each other.

“You can be in two completely different parts of the city, if you wanted, and join at some point to take on a specific mission,” Redding told the publication.

“You don’t want to create this whole Gotham City ecosystem, and then tell a co-op teammate that you have to stay within 20 meters of your post, or you’re going to teleport somewhere.

“I think that people understand ‘open world’ has a certain dynamic to it, and especially if you’re on these fast-moving Batcycles, or you’re traversing using your traversal abilities.”

Being able to take off on your own while still being in the same game as your friend has limitless possibilities, and it’s fantastic to see this is something we’ll be seeing in Gotham Knights.

Redding also confirmed to the publication that you’ll be able to play as any character you like while in co-op – but so can your friends. If you’re looking for a world with two Batgirls, you might just find it in Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights will release sometime in 2021. Pick up a subscription to Official PlayStation Magazine here.
