Area 51 has become the meme that no-one expected after a Facebook Events page popped up and went viral. The page, which you can check out for yourself here, wants people to Naruto-run through the presumably armed guards at the top-secret military base in the hopes of seeing “them aliens.”
The meme Event has, at the time of writing, over a million people listed as “Going,” and nearly 900k as “Interested.”

Even more surprising than the meme itself is the connection to Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series, [via LadBible], as it seems people are using the games as “research” for their proposed infiltration of Area 51.
Over on Twitter one user writes: “GTA has been training us for years how to get into military bases. Area 51 gonna be a BREEZE”
Another added: “Taking notes and playing GTA San Andreas on how to break in Area 51.”
However, some people are more cautious about the proposed idea, with one citing GTA as a reason to not do it.
“All the people that are wanting to break into Area 51 have obviously never played GTA,” they tweeted. “Once you break into Area 51 instant 5 star wanted level and the entire military is after you.”
Of course it’s safe to assume that this is ALL MEMES, and one million people aren’t actually about to storm the top-secret military base, because that would be pure chaos.
“We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets [sic] see them aliens,” says the Facebook page’s description.
Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews has released a warning regarding the event [via Independent], saying: ““[Area 51] is an open training range for the US Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces.”
She added: “The US Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”
