GTA IV Soundtrack changes
Are you still playing re-playing GTA IV or planning on to in the near future? Well if so, you may very well notice something is missing the next time you load up this Roman Bellic Friend Simulator as according to Kotaku UK, the game is about to lose a whole bunch of its soundtrack due to a 10-year licence agreement expiring, which just so happens to fall in the 10-year anniversary of GTA IV this month.
While not all of the songs will be removed, according to a statement provided by Rockstar Games to Kotaku UK, GTA IV will have “certain songs removed from the in-game soundtrack”, which includes the main game, as well as its expansions, The Lost and the Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. It seems that the station that will apparently suffer the most will be the Russian pop station, Vladivostok FM. Which according to the GTA Wiki, includes 13 tracks in the base game and 15 with The Ballad of Gay Tony expansion.
However, despite some of the in-game soundtrack being removed, Rockstar did clarify that some tunes will be moving-in to replace those ejected, so at least Rockstar are making clear efforts to support the game following the licence expiry. In regards to the new tunes coming in, Rockstar stated that they “are replacing some of those songs with a new set of songs on that station. We will update our customer support website with new information as soon as it is available.”
We don’t know exactly when the changes will happen, but according to Kotaku UK’s sources, it might happen on Thursday, April 26th. However, it’s not the first time this has happened with the GTA series, as both of the PC versions of GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas had some of its soundtrack removed, which also happened 10 years following their initial release.
What do you make of these changes? For me personally, while I still do dabble back into the world of GTA IV thanks to the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature, the Russian radio station is not one I listen to often, but of course there will be plenty of you that do. So with that in mind, do you think it’s inevitable that more tunes will be cut from the game?
