The Grand Theft Auto series isn’t exactly known for being a wholesome and friendly franchise. From prostitution to extreme violence, the Rockstar Games series is pretty cruel in its stories at times, but the players themselves? Well that seems to be an entirely different matter.
An impressive number of GTA 5 role-playing gamers recently came together to hold a touching tribute to a 16-year-old streamer who sadly passed away.
Guilherme, who had a pretty big following before his death, had hoped to reach the 100,000 subscriber milestone on YouTube.
Fans of the 16-year-old took to GTA RP to try and make his final wish a reality – by holding something of a ‘funeral’ to pay their respects.
Players turned up to a designated spot with their characters dressed all in black and took to the streets in a funeral parade. Each player held their character’s hands up in a peace sign, and one streamer even sang the iconic Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah.’
A friend of Guilherme, who was also known as ‘Footballer,’ created a video tribute of the player’s best moments. Check it out below.
The video description reads [translated via Google]: “Homage to Thiago Guilherme, or better, Footballer. Gamer and streamer, the young Footballer came to die. He had been hospitalized for a few days, and several prominent figures had come out in support of the boy.
“An internet campaign was launched so that your Youtube channel reached 100,000 subscribers to receive the site’s sign in tribute to the dream that he always wanted to accomplish.
“I, Gabriel Lopes (Random Gamer), I got to know him and to know this sad news, I wanted to pay homage to him. And using snippets of live from one of the best people I’ve ever met in this scenario, Skipnho, I made this video so that we never forget every smile and happiness that it has given us.
“Wherever you are, know that we all love you.
‘”A gamer never dies, he respawns in a better place.’
“Rest in peace, eternal Footballer!”
Rest in peace, indeed.
