God Of War Hits Sales Milestone With 10 Million Copies Sold

Last year saw the release of Santa Monica Studio’s revamped take on the God of War series, and it was everything we hoped it would be (and more).

God of War 2018 was a heart-wrenchingly beautiful take on family and love with a large helping of Norse and Greek mythology, a side of fantastic combat and a whole heap of exciting gameplay.

It came as no surprise to anyone (except for maybe the developers) that the PlayStation 4 exclusive became a massive hit, winning multiple awards and introducing a whole new generation of players to the story of Kratos.

The mammoth success of the game has since spawned a documentary about the ups and downs of developing such a title, and at last count the game has earned itself over 50 awards, including everything from sound design accolades to the elusive Game Of The Year award at The Game Awards 2018.

Of course the only people more impressed with GoW than the critics is the players, who’ve continued to support the jaw-droppingly good game from day one.

It’s now emerged that God of War has sold over 10 million copies worldwide, joining the likes of previous PS4 smash-hits, The Last of Us Remastered and Uncharted 4.

Over on Twitter, GoW’s executive producer Shannon Studstill thanked the millions of fans of the game, writing: “Thank you to our fans worldwide for helping us breakthrough 10-million copies of #GodofWar. This is an incredible achievement for our team, franchise, and to everyone who has been with us on this *crazy journey.”

It spells nothing but good news for the hardworking team at Santa Monica Studios, and for the players it means we’re basically guaranteed a sequel.

After all, GoW ended on one helluva cliffhanger…

Congratulations to the game’s director, Cory Barlog, and to the rest of the God of War team. We can’t wait to see what’s planned for the future!
