Half-Life 2 is now playable on Nintendo Switch

Half-Life 2, a game considered to be one of the greatest of all time, is now playable on the Nintendo Switch. However, there is a catch.

Half-Life 2 originally was originally released in 2004 for PC, before being ported to other platforms. Despite being nearly two decades old, Half-Life 2 looks and plays great to this day. Especially with the help of mods that improve upon its formula.

Half-Life 2 never concluded

Half-Life 2 would later receive two episodes that expanded on its story. The episodes were supposed to be in three parts. Episode 3 was meant to be released in 2007. Sadly, however, that episode was cancelled and as a result, Half-Life 2 never really concluded.

Since that time, fans have been longing for Half-life 3. Though it’s probably fair to say that many of us have given up on that ever happening.

Sure we got Half-Life: Alyx in 2020 and by all accounts, that is an amazing game. Unfortunately, Half-Life: Alyx is a VR-only title and requires a beast of a PC to play it. This meant much of the Half-Life fan base was cut out from ever playing this prequel to Half-Life 2.

Half-Life 2 is on the Switch, kinda

That being said, there is some good news for Half-Life fans of that game on the Nintendo Switch, because Half-Life 2 is now playable on the hybrid console. The catch, however, is that you need a modded Switch to play it.

A video was uploaded to YouTube by OatmeanDome and Simonx22, and it looks to run rather well, all things considered.

Furthermore, there are even Nintendo Switch button prompts in-game, which makes it almost look like an official release.

That being said, in the description of the video, there are mentions of bugs, crashes and a stuttering framerate to name a few. Regardless, once this mod has been fixed, it’s quite exciting to think that Half-Life 2 is playable on the Nintendo Switch.

Oh as a heads up, if you’ve never played Half-Life 2, The Orange Box is just £3.09 on Steam. It includes Half-Life 2, Episodes 1 & 2, Portal as well as Team Fortress.
