Hasbro Is Bringing Back Classic Handheld Gaming Devices

Remember Hasbro and Tiger’s LCD-screen handheld “consoles”? Of course you do, and they’re officially making a comeback. If you weren’t a 1980s or 90s baby then you probably have no idea what these things are and, honestly, you’re missing out.

The monochrome Tiger Electronics LCD handheld would offer the best in basic platformer games (among others), cast against a slightly-coloured backdrop. They were limited, they were licensed, and they were da bomb in the 90s (as was saying “da bomb”).

Hasbro has announced the return of the LCD handheld, which will be hitting store shelves in Autumn this year. Priced at $14.99 each, four classic editions will be released: The Little MermaidTransformers: Generation 2X-Men Project X, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The battery-powered units have been lovingly recreated with “the original handheld game unit in mind,” the company said.

If the sight of these doesn’t fill you with nostalgia, you’re probably too young.
