The followup to ConcernedApe’s Stardew Valley, Haunted Chocolatier, is apparently going to have a “greater focus” on combat compared to its predecessor.
ConcernedApe recently posted an update regarding the recently announced Haunted Chocolatier on his blog. In it, he detailed how combat differs from Stardew Valley. One of the big new additions to the game is shields.
“Many attacks can be blocked with a shield, and in most cases, blocking an attack causes the enemy to become “stunned”. While an enemy is stunned, you can attack them much faster.” says ConcernedApe in the post. To demonstrate, he included a gif of the shield in action. Haunted Chocolatier’s combat looks much more fluid in comparison to Stardew.
The developer also made a point that everything is still a work in progress. “Everything seen so far could still change before the game is finished.” he writes. He also made a point that this might be familiar to those that followed Stardew Valley’s development.
Early footage of Stardew Valley looks almost completely different to how the game looks now. The pixel art changed a lot over development, as well as how the game plays. Haunted Chocolatier likely won’t release for quite a while.
ConcernedApe also noted in the post that he won’t release the game until he’s satisfied with it. “If it never gets there, I’ll just never release it. But don’t worry, I have 100% faith that I’ll get it there.” Haunted Chocolatier having a greater focus on combat is sure to be a welcome addition. How the game will ultimately shape out remains to be seen.
