Various Game of Thrones spin-offs are currently being considered by HBO, according to a report by Deadline.
The broadcaster apparently has three potential ideas for the fantasy followup, set within Geroge R.R. Martin’s fictional kingdoms.
Titles include “9 Voyages” (a.k.a Seasnake), “Flea Bottom” and “10,000 Ships”, with the first of the three apparently being handled by screenwriter Bruno Heller. Flea Bottom and 10,000 Ships are currently being explored as ideas but are not officially in development.
The trio of concepts joins a potential adaptation of Geroge R.R. Martin’s novella “Tales of Dunk and Egg” and a possible animated series based on Game of Thrones. HBO is also developing a prequel to the GoT TV series, titled “House of the Dragons”. There’s a lot to explore when it comes to Westeros history, so creating a prequel based on the events proceeding the TV show makes sense.
During a conversation with Deadline, HBO Cheif Content Officer Casey Bloys discussed some of the GoT ideas currently being explored:
“We are talking about other areas that make sense as well. George R.R. Martin’s world is so big and what’s interesting about it, not only is it big but he’s got a lot of road maps in terms of history.
“So, one of the great things about House of the Dragon is that’s an established history that leads you to Game of Thrones the show, and there is a lot of little branches. There is a lot of opportunities and stories to tell.
“The good news with the prequels is that there is history that George has laid out. We are working with George, it would really be something we talk about with him but for right now, the prequels land themselves to it because of the really expansive history that George laid out in his world.”
House of Dragons is expected to air in 2022, so we’ll have to wait a little longer before stepping foot in Westeros once again.
