The Game Awards has given us our first look at gameplay in A Plague Tale: Requiem, and yes, there are a lot of rats.
A Plague Tale: Requiem continues right after the ending of the first game, Innocence. “After escaping their devastated homeland, Amicia and Hugo journey far south to new regions and vibrant cities,” said Asobo Studio in a press release.
The new trailer does show off a much more coastal, Mediterranean look compared to the previous game. But much like the first game, there are countless rats to be found. And from the looks of things, the word countless is being pushed to the max.
The gameplay trailer for A Plague Tale: Requiem also makes it seem like the game will be a bit more action packed this time around. Though the slow, stealthy moments from the original are making a return. And you’ll need to use fire to scare off the legion of rats again once more.
The trailer also has a voice over reciting the poem Requiem by Robert Louis Stevenson, setting a grim and moody atmosphere. It also seems that Amicia will be separated from her brother Hugo at some point during the story. But considering how looking after him was a big part of the first game, it likely won’t be for the whole of Requiem.
A Plague Tale: Requiem is launching sometime in 2022, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. A cloud version will also be making its way to Nintendo Switch.
