Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the Nintendo Switch was one of the best games of last year. Sporting a stellar line-up, a never-ending selection of music and more stages than you could shake a stick at it, it really is…well, the ultimate in Smash gaming.
However, it could have been pretty different according to a recent Nintendo Dream magazine interview [via Source Gaming’s PushDustin].

Pokemon master Masahiro Sakurai told the magazine that Incineroar’s role in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate nearly went to another popular Pokemon – Decidueye.

The role eventually ended up going to Incineroar though, and the revelation has left some Smash players pretty upset…

A year ago, it would have be Decidueye having a strong lead over Incineroar I think. I saw a lot of hate towards Incineroar in the speculation period.

It’s caused something of a debate over on Twitter, as Incineroar and Decidueye fans sound off about the final decision from Nintendo.

He would have been my choice. But I also like to play as Incineroar now..

Incineroar made much more sense as a newcomer in comparison. I love having a wrestler on the roster, despite the fact that Decidueye is a more popular pick.

Who would you prefer to play as in Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Did Nintendo make the right choice with Incineroar, or are you more Team Decidueye?
