If you’ve ever played BioShock and thought that it would be great as a musical, today’s your lucky day, because a high school choir did just that.
It’s probably fair to say that Sander Cohen helps add a bit of camp to the otherwise frightening world of Rapture. But there’s always room for more, and now a high school choir group has done just that with its take on BioShock that makes it a musical (thanks Eurogamer).
Performed by the Powerhouse choir from John Burroughs High School in California, the entire performance (which you can check out below) is quite the sight to see.
what was it for?
It was part of the Hart Encore 2022 show choir competition, and Powerhouse took home numerous with an obviously incredible performance. All the characters you might expect to see are there, like Sander Cohen himself, Brigid Tenenbaum, and of course Andrew Ryan.
The musical doesn’t cover the entire game, and more focuses on the founding of Rapture itself, probably because there’s only so many times you can write a song asking ‘would you kindly?‘
While it might be the first thing most people would come up with for a fan project, it certainly is a fun approach to it. The performance netted the group awards like best musicianship, showmanship, and soloist, so it clearly went down well.
You should definitely watch the full thing for a light bit of entertainment. A while back someone even made a BioShock fan film, for another unique take on the world of rapture. But if a BioShock musical and fan film isn’t up your alley, don’t worry, as there is a licensed film coming from Netflix.
