It’s alleged that Hitman 3 runs better on Xbox Series X than on PS5, something which might upset fans who’ve bought the game on the latest Sony console.
An analysis was carried out on IO Interactive’s latest Hitman escapade in the form of a comparison between PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game, done by Digital Foundry. The result? Apparently, the Series X comes out top (thanks, NME).
The comparison looked at factors such as resolutions, framerates and loading times, with the consoles performing slightly differently across the board. Microsoft’s obelisk, however, managed to maintain a native 4K resolution at a solid 60 frames per second.
While the PS5 didn’t quite manage to reach 4K heights (with a resolution of 1800p), Sony’s console did apparently provide a more consistent framerate throughout testing. Particular attention was drawn to the game’s Mendoza Argentina mission, in which the Xbox Series X could dip to 50fps.
The PS5’s lower resolution could be deliberate, to ensure a steady frame rate throughout the game. It’s worth mentioning, however, that both consoles did manage to achieve 60fps throughout the game, so it’d be interesting to see how the PS5 performs if it were to use a 4K resolution in Hitman 3.
Interestingly, the recently-released Xbox Series S appears to run at a lower resolution than the previous generation Xbox One X. The analysis shows that the Series S maintains a 1080p resolution, while the Xbox One X manages to achieve 1440p. Previous concerns about the Series S’s performance have been raised before, like in this report from The Verge that explores the console’s limitations.
So, is the Xbox Series X truly victorious in this battle? Well, it’s hard to say. Some players value framerate over resolution, while others will notice the clarity difference right away. If there’s one thing that’s certain, it’s that the game will play beautifully on both consoles.
