Hunt: Showdown Is Getting A Live Action Television Series

Crytek’s first-person shooter Hunt: Showdown is getting a live-action series on upcoming streaming service Binge.

Crytek announced the news in a blog post “We have always known that Hunt: Showdown would look great as a live-action series,” said Avni Yerli, Crytek founder, and joint CEO.

Hunt: Showdown is a battle royale game set in 1890s Louisiana. It’s an incredibly tense game due to having to fend off both other players and various monsters around the map. “The world is dark, gritty, and immersive, and there is so much potential for many great stories to be told,” continues Yerli. Avni Yerli, alongside Crytek’s Faruk Yerli and Pascal Tonecker, will serve as executive producers. Allan Ungar and Vince Talenti of Binge will be producing the show.

Binge is launching next year as a free streaming service focused on shows based on popular games, like Hunt: Showdown. Shows based on both Driver and System Shock are also in development for the platform.

How Binge is expecting to bring in revenue isn’t clear yet. The website mentions something that sounds like a currency called Bytz. “Earn useful Bytz rewards for bingeing exclusive shows, premium channels, and original live-action series,” according to the site. It isn’t stated what Bytz rewards are or what they do.

It will be interesting to see Hunt: Showdown adapted as a live-action series. A lot of the tension comes from close calls against players and monsters. The game doesn’t have an explicit plot. So it remains to be seen how the show will be adapted. There is no release date in place.
