An industry insider has claimed that GTA 6 won’t be set in the 1980s, as some previous rumours have led us to believe.
Rockstar Games is no stranger to teasing its fan base and it seems with every GTA Online update or event, a new tease is revealed.
In the vast majority of cases, these teases lead to nothing and it seems like Rockstar Games just likes to have a bit of fun.
Back in January this year following another GTA Online event, players were rewarded with items that appeared to have references to Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
GTA Vice City, for many, is the best game in the long-running series from Rockstar Games and is of course set in the 1980s, in a city inspired by the neon-lit Miami.
The references included an in-game jacket with the words “Panther Varsity” and a neon pink diamond with the number four. Not including add-on content, GTA Vice City is the fourth main entry in the series.
On the back of the jacket was also the phrase “Hostes Ad Pulverem Ferire” which was a phrase found at the entrance of a courthouse-style building in GTA Vice City.
So with all the previous rumours and speculation, you’d be forgiven in thinking that the next GTA will be set in the 1980s-themed Vice City. However, that might not completely be the case according to an industry insider.
Tom Henderson, who has been reliable in the past with leaked information related to Call of Duty and Battlefield, has claimed that the next GTA won’t be set in the 1980s.
When a follower not-so-politely asked Henderson for some information on the next GTA, he simply replied: “It’s not set in the 1980s and is modern.”
However, while Henderson says that the next GTA won’t be set in the 1980s, he doesn’t say that it won’t return to Vice City. So make of that as you will.
Though it is of course worth keeping in mind that all reports thus far related to the next GTA are unconfirmed rumours, so we must take them all with a pinch of salt.
