The Borderlands live-action movie has its Claptrap, and it’s none other than Jack Black! (Try saying that 10 times fast).
Joined by Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Hart and Cate Blanchett, Jack Black will play the role of everyone’s favourite canned irritant, Claptrap. Claptrap has been a part of the Borderlands series from the beginning, first emerging onto the scene in 2009. Now, the ranting robot’s role will be reprised by one of Hollywood’s goofiest actors [via The Hollywood Reporter].
Eli Roth, the Borderlands film’s director, has worked with Black and Blanchett before in the 2018 fantasy The House with a Clock in Its Walls. In a statement, Roth expressed his glee at working with the comedian once again:
“I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth. Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect for bringing him to the big screen.”
Jack Black has recently starred alongside Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart in two Jumanji sequels. However, Black has a long resume stretching back to 1992, with the likes of Mars Attacks!, School of Rock and Kung Fu Panda. You should also know Black from Tenacious D, a comedy rock band that has its own feature film and managed to get into the UK Top 40 charts!
Alongside Black, Cate Blanchett with take on the role of Lilith, the game’s futuristic witch thief, while Hart will fill the army boots of Roland. While Jack Black will be voicing a CGI Claptrap, we’re sure that he’ll be bringing every punch of his talent to the role. The upcoming film has Randy Pitchford on board as Randy Pitchford, but the flick will probably feel quite different from the games.
If one thing’s certain, it’s that Jack Black will definitely make this Borderlands role his own. Move over Claptrap, Jacktrap is in town!
