Kurosawa-Inspired Trek To Yomi Action Game Gets New Trailer

Devolver Digital has shown off a brand new gameplay trailer for black-and-white samurai game Trek to Yomi.

Xbox announced the Akira Kurosawa-inspired action game earlier this year. And now a 4K gameplay trailer shows off the gameplay in stunning detail.

Gameplay will require great timing on the player’s part. You are able to fight with the samurai’s signature weapon, the katana, alongside other weapons such as the ranged bow, ozutsu and bo-shurikens. The entire game will be in black-and-white, in keeping with the look of classic samurai films.

Trek to Yomi will see you playing as Hiroki. The young warrior makes a promise to his dying master to protect his village. And sees him seeking revenge when the village is attacked.

The trailer shows off various combat instances you’ll take part in. One scene shows you fighting behind a room divider, your shadow cast against it. It’s clear that strong contrasts were a priority, and the black-and-white look is incredibly convincing. Close-up shots make it clear it’s a game, but some of the wide-shots look very realistic.

Developing the game is Leonard Menchiari, best known for the stylistic sidescroller The Eternal Castle [REMASTERED]. And it is being co-written by Alec Meer, co-founder of Rock Paper Shotgun, and writer on No Man’s Sky.

Trek to Yomi is set to release Spring 2022. And it will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. It will also be available on Game Pass from Day 1.
