Play the game that inspired it all

To capitalise on the hype surrounding the HBO series, Sony is offering a free trial for The Last of Us: Part 1. The original game was released for PS3 in 2013 before being remastered for PS4 in 2014. For some, the apocalyptic classic from Naughty Dog is considered to be one of the best games of all time.

However, in order to play The Last of Us: Part 1, you will need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus at the Premium tier. Unfortunately, subscribing to the Essential or Extra tier won’t give you access to the trial.

That being said, The Last of Us: Remastered has been offered in the basic subscription tier in October 2019. Furthermore, it is also part of the PlayStation Plus Collection on PS5.

How long is The trial for The Last of Us remake?

The trial for The Last of Us remake will last two hours. During that time, you will have access to the entire game. However, that won’t be enough to complete the whole game, of course. On a first full playthrough, it will probably take you about 15 to 20+ hours to finish its story.

Can we unlock Trophies during the trial?

Yes, during the two-hour trial, you will unlock Trophies as you would if you purchased the full game. What’s more, if you decide to purchase the full game, The Last of Us remake has an easy Platinum Trophy. At the time of writing, 7.1% of fans that have played the remake have earned the Platinum Trophy, which is quite a high success rate.

What if I buy the Last of Us remake at a later date?

If you play the trial, but decide to buy the remake at a later date, all your progress and Trophies will carry over. So if you decided to hold out until the remake was offered at a discount, that would be a wise move indeed.

We reviewed The Last of Us: Part 1!

In our review of The Last of Us: Part 1, we said it’s: “a game that doesn’t feel like it needs to exist, but I’m glad it does. Even though that outdated 2013 design still bleeds through, the visual upgrades, combat tweaks and accessibility improvements make it feel like a brand-new title. In time, this will become the de facto definitive edition of the game that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
