The Last of Us TV series for HBO Max will not air in 2022. Yes, you’ve read that correctly. We will not be watching The Last of Us this year.
For fans of the video game series, the TV adaptation of The Last of Us is easily one of the most anticipated shows to release this year. Well, that’s at least what we thought. Sadly, that appears to not be the case.
In an interview by The Hollywood Reporter with HBO Max programming chief Casey Bloys, the news that will disappoint a legion of excited fans was revealed.
Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter asked: “When can we expect The Last of Us, this year or 2023?” Here’s the sucker punch, it’s not going to be this year.
“The Last of Us is shooting right now in Canada,” replied Bloys. “We haven’t announced an air date yet. But it’s not 2022. They’re still shooting in Calgary.”
We have more bad news
Up until now, it has been widely believed that The Last of Us will premiere this year and many had hoped that its first trailer reveal would be around the next corner. I guess this explains why there’s been no sign of a trailer.
Furthermore, to firmly dash the hopes of a 2022 release, Casey Bloys also revealed the same news to Deadline. “It’s not going to air in 2022 – they are still shooting in Canada,” stated the HBO chief. “I imagine you will see it in 23”.
So, there you have it, I’m sure this is the news many of us did not want to hear. But it looks like we’ll be waiting until 2023 for The Last of Us TV series to premiere on HBO Max. Hopefully, we still get treated to a trailer this year, right?
