Confirmed: Spider-Man Is PlayStation Exclusive Hero In Marvel’s Avengers

EDIT: This has now been confirmed. Original article as follows.

It’s rumoured that Spider-Man himself will be a playable character in the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers from Square Enix. The catch? He’s supposedly a PlayStation exclusive character.

As always with leaks and rumours, taken them with a pinch of salt until confirmed.

The suggestion first game from Reddit user FNaF_walrusman, who spotted a now-removed retail listing which read: “Play as Spider-Man exclusively on PS4.”

The user said: “Doesn’t look legit, but I wouldn’t understand why they would put it there as its not like there is a ton of talk about him being an actual playable character.”

We already know that Marvel’s Avengers has signed a deal with PlayStation, suggesting some form of exclusivity is on the cards. Whether or not it’d be making a firm-favourite character only playable by PS4 gamers remains to be seen.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a retailer accidentally leak some important video game information. Just last week, UK toy retailer, Smyths Toys, leaked that the multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite will be free-to-play.

A promotional description said the game will run at up to 120 FPS and will feature a “groundbreaking free-to-play multiplayer experience.” Following the leak, the Halo team confirmed this to be true, though presumably, it was meant to be kept under wraps for a little longer.

“Halo is for everyone. We can confirm #HaloInfinite multiplayer will be free-to-play and will support 120FPS on Xbox Series X. More details will be shared later,” said the official Halo Twitter account, just hours after the leak went public.

As for Marvel’s Avengers, let’s hope we get confirmation on the rumour sooner rather than later.

Marvel’s Avengers is due to release on September 4 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It’ll later be heading to next-gen consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
