In an unexpected turn of events, Metroid fans are showing their love as the series tops the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS charts.
Last week saw the release of Metroid Dread to the Nintendo Switch. The latest adventure from Samus has been met with high critical acclaim. Scoring an average of 89 by critics and a score of 8.7 by users on aggregate review website Metacritic.
Metroid Dread has also been riding high in the sales charts since its launch and is on track to becoming the most successful game in the series. So quite naturally, a lot of gamers want to get aboard the hype train, and it seems they want a taste of previous Samus adventures.
Metroid remains forever popular with fans
As reported by TheGamer, Shinesparkers (a dedicated Metroid fan page) has shared some interesting statistics on legacy Metroid titles. Not only is Metroid Dread currently number one in the Nintendo Switch eShop charts, but the series is also performing well in the Wii U and 3DS charts.
As it stands right now, in the Wii U eShop sales charts, Metroid Fusion is number one, Metroid Zero Mission is number two, Metroid Prime Trilogy is at number seven, and Super Metroid is at number nine.
Furthermore, Metroid: Samus Returns, a remake of Metroid 2 for the GameBoy, currently sits at number three in the eShop charts for the Nintendo 3DS.
Legacy titles for the Metroid series topping the charts is not only great news for the franchise, but it also shows that there is still plenty of love for the series, no matter the platform.
