The cast of The Lord of the Rings movies is set to reunite for a celebratory 20th anniversary event, beginning this month.
As reported by Nerdist, the special event has been put together by Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, and will take place at select cinemas in the US.
The event will feature showings of the 4K remastered versions of the trilogy, and feature members of the cast appearing for post-screening talks.
The description via the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema website reads as follows: “THE LORD OF THE RINGS Trilogy stands as a nearly singular achievement in cinema – virtually flawless films created by a cast and crew who spent years committed to honouring J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision and presenting something truly special for fans.
“To honour the twentieth anniversary of FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING and the release of a gorgeous 4K remastering overseen by Jackson, Alamo Drafthouse is reuniting Middle-earth’s finest for three special post-screening conversations hosted by noted Ring-Nut and host of The Late Show on CBS, Stephen Colbert.”
The event will be hosted by US talk show host Stephen Colbert, and will run over the course of three weeks beginning on March 25th.
From that date, Colbert will be joined by the likes of Elijah Wood (Frodo), Sean Astin (Sam), Billy Boyd (Pippin), and Dominic Monaghan (Merry), to talk about the Fellowship of the Ring.
Then on April 1st, Colbert will be joined by Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), and Liv Tyler (Arwen) to talk about The Two Towers.
Lastly, on April 8th, the event will be closed out by director Peter Jackson, Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf), and Andy Serkis (Gollum/Smeagol) to chat about The Return of the King.
Unfortunately, after checking out the Drafthouse website for ticket information, it seems the event will only be taking place in US cinemas. However, highlights from the event will be available via the Alamo Drafthouse VOD platform later in the year (hopefully not restricted to the US).
