It’s being reported that Mark Hamill has been offered the part of Vesemir for season two of Netflix’s The Witcher. The supposed news comes from an unnamed source close to We Got This Covered. The source in question has correctly leaked television and movie news in the past, leading some credence to the idea of Hamill’s casting. WGTC claims to have received proof of the actor signing up to the project, so colour me hopeful for now.
As always, until we hear word from Netflix or from the man himself, take the rumour with a pinch of salt for now.
The Star Wars veteran has expressed quite a bit of interest in joining the cast of Netflix’s The Witcher (despite not knowing what the show is about). When the news of his interest emerged, fans of the new series (and the books and games) jumped at the idea of Hamill as Vesemir, the mentor of protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
Just last month, The Witcher showrunner, Lauren S. Hissrich, has commented on the possibility of Hamill actually joining the cast for the show’s second season.
Speaking to IGN, Hissrich explained that she’s a “huge Star Wars fan” and that Mark Hamill would be “of interest to me and interest to the project”.
She explained her reaction when she learned of Hamill’s comment about the role, saying: “It was one of those first Witcher moments for me where I was like, ‘oh my God, is this even possible? That Mark Hamill knows what this is and would be interested in doing that?”
She added: “[We’re] not casting the role quite yet…that being said, I am loving what’s happening on the internet. And I’m loving all of the fan reaction to it. Obviously, we’ve seen what a huge fanbase The Witcher has, and to add that to a Star Wars fanbase… it makes my mind explode a little bit.”
Now that production has begun, could we be seeing Hamill as Vesemir?
