Marvel’s Avengers Wants To Be Better Than Insomniac’s Spider-Man

Square Enix’s upcoming game Marvel’s Avengers got a lot of people talking when it was unveiled at E3 2019 last month.

The expectation for the game is real – not only does it have to follow on from the unbelievably successful Avengers movies, but it also has the gaming behemoth of Marvel’s Spider-Man to worry about.

Marvel’s Spider-Man, developed by Insomniac Games, became one of the most popular titles of 2018 and one of the best-selling PS4 exclusives of all time.

The influence of Spider-Man is something that the game’s developer, Crystal Dynamics, is embracing wholeheartedly – at least according to Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda.

Speaking to GamesIndustry, Matsuda commented on the success of Spider-Man and how it’s influenced Avengers, saying: “Spider-Man was a huge title and a major success, so we would like to work hard to have that kind of success,

“So I guess it did increase my expectations [for Avengers]. I do believe you have to have high goals. I thought that Spider-Man was fantastic, but we don’t want to be bested by them. We are working very hard on the development effort right now, so that we are able to provide a new experience.”

There’s nothing wrong with aiming high – especially if it means we’re going to get the Avengers game we all want and deserve! Will it be better than Marvel’s Spider-Man? Well, we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s definitely going to be an exciting ride!

Marvel’s Avengers, which stars the likes of Troy Baker and Nolan North, is described as follows: “Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source.

“The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix are excited to unveil Marvel’s Avengers, an epic action-adventure game that combines cinematic storytelling with single-player and co-operative gameplay.

“Developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, Nixxes Software, and Crystal Northwest, Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC on May 15, 2020.”
