PlayStation 5 Will Be Aimed At ‘Hardcore Gamers’

Sony has stated on multiple occasions now that it’s going to be continuing to focus on releasing its blockbuster titles, choosing quality over quantity, and it seems this is going to be especially true of the PlayStation 5.

According to a new report [via Wall Street Journal], Sony is doubling down on the strategies that made the PlayStation 4 so great in the hopes of repeating the console’s success with its successor, the PS5.

Sony will be working hard on a quality-over-quantity approach to its games, suggesting that the likes of upcoming titles Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us Part 2 are just the tip of the iceberg (assuming that these are all going to be – at some point – PlayStation 5 titles).

There are a huge number of Sony exclusives that are hopefully going to the invade the PlayStation 5, including sequels to PS4 hits like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

According to the WSJ report, Sony is also hoping to continue making deals with third-party publishers, most likely with the aim of securing timed exclusivity and exclusive content to help drive players to PlayStation.

The next PlayStation is reportedly hoping to use “harper graphics and well-known games to help separate from rivals,” and is priming itself for hardcore gamers.

From what we’ve heard of Sony’s next-generation console it’s going to be a beastly machine, and we can’t wait for the official unveiling.

Earlier this year, PS5 architect Mark Cerny confirmed in an interview with WIRED that the new console has an AMD manufactured chip, and is based on the third generation of AMD’s Ryzen line, with 8 cores of the new 7nm Zen 2 micro-architecture.

The GPU is a custom Radeon Navi solution and will support ray tracing for the most realistic experience.

Rumour even suggests that it’s going to be more powerful than Xbox’s next generation console, which is currently going by the name of Xbox Scarlett.

Hopefully the truth will be revealed – along with the PS5 – before we know it!
