The Mercenaries mode first made its appearance way back in 1999 for Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Since that time the fan-favourite mode has appeared in Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, and Resident Evil 6.

When you think that we haven’t seen Mercenaries mode in a new Resi game ever since Resident Evil 6 in 2012, that’s quite odd.

Seeing as The Mercenaries made its debut in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, many fans had hoped that the mode would make its return in the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake. Sadly that was not to be.

Unlike previous Mercenaries modes which were in a third-person perspective, the mode in Resident Evil Village is going to be a little different seeing as this game is in first-person.

However, despite the change of perspective, the concept of Mercenaries in Resident Evil Village will pretty much remain the same with its high-octane, fast-paced action.

In a nutshell, The Mercenaries mode will require the player to go from A to B before the timer runs out. However, if you try to simply sprint your way from start to finish, you will inevitably fail.

The Mercenaries mode will require killing enemies along the way and each time you kill an enemy, your timer will be boosted. No doubt throughout the map there will also be various pick-ups to increase your time.

Upon completing your Mercenaries run, the aim of the game is to score the highest possible total and complete it in the fastest time. However, in the Resident Evil Village’s version of Mercenaries, you will be getting a helping hand from the Duke.

The Duke is Village’s answer to the Resident Evil 4 merchant, and he will offer you weapons, upgrades, and ability boosts to help you along the way. By completing Mercenaries, you will also be rewarded with bonus content.
