Rumour Claims Metal Gear Solid Collection Coming To PS5 This Year

A recent rumour has claimed that a Metal Gear Solid Collection is coming to PS5, and it could be released as soon as this year.

The rumours were posted to 4chan [via GameRant], and claim that two Metal Gear Solid releases will arrive in 2021. As always, these rumours must be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

The post on the forum has no sources or added information to back up the claims. For all we know, the post could be from a random bloke called Keith from Skegness.

In 2011 we got a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection which included Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.  As well as the two NES originals, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

Then two years later we got another Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection which included the original Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 4, as well as other bits n’ bobs.

However, the rumours posted on 4chan claim that not only will this Metal Gear Solid Collection on PS5 include MGS2, MGS3, but also quite surprisingly Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes. MGS: Peace Walker will apparently not feature in the collection.

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes is a remake of the original game that was released for the PlayStation, but this remake is and has always been an exclusive for the Nintendo GameCube.

While I would have taken these rumours with a pinch of salt to begin with, for a PS5 collection to include Twin Snakes makes the idea even more unlikely in my opinion.

I believe that in the unlikely event that Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes was to get a re-release, it would probably return on a Nintendo console, and a re-release wouldn’t be exclusive to PS5.

If Twin Snakes was to release on any other platform (other than Nintendo), it would more likely be multiformat and not a PS5 exclusive.

Plus, I believe that if Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes were to get another release, a straight-up port wouldn’t do it justice as the gameplay hasn’t aged too well.

If Konami made this happen, not only would it benefit from HD visuals, but also reworked controls and a choice of a free-moving camera would be great.

The post on 4chan also claims that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will also get a re-release on PlayStation 5 this year. Between the two sets of rumours, this is perhaps the most believable of the two.

The post also claims that both rumoured releases won’t benefit from the DualSenses HD rumble, Haptic Feedback and Adaptive Triggers. Both the collection and MGS4 will be quite basic ports, apparently.

Personally, as much as I would love these rumours to come to fruition, I doubt that they ever will. But nothing is impossible, I guess.
