Metal Gear Solid V Players Discover Secret Cutscene After 5 Years

With data miners, hackers, obsessive fans and everything in between, it’s rarer and rarer to find games that keep their Easter eggs hidden for long periods of time. However, bigger games, or games which comes from bonafide auteurs, are likely still going to be concealing a thing or two, and Metal Gear Solid V is one of them.

The 2015 classic may be half a decade old now, but players have only just discovered an entire cutscene in the game – a first for the Konami titile. The news comes from Kotaku, where it’s reported that players had to band together to destroy all the nukes and work against the clock to get the job done.

It was never expected to be possible, as players can create nukes whenever they like, so all had to work together to ensure more were being taken down than built.

As shown by MGSV Nuke Watcher, there are still more than 19,000 nukes on PC, and around 2,500 on PlayStation 4. Obviously taking these down would be a mammoth job, but PlayStation 3 was a much more viable option, with what’s believed to have been a figure in the double-digits.

As for the cutscene itself, it’s not something you won’t have seen if you’re a hardcore MGS fan. The animation was shown accidentally back in 2018, playing on the PC version of the game, though this is the first time it’s ever been earned.

“The nuclear disarmament event was triggered in the Steam version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain on Feb 2nd at approximately 12:00 GMT,” Konami said in a statement at the time. “We are still investigating, but can confirm that the event was triggered while the nuke count hadn’t reached zero.”
