Microsoft Flight Simulator Is Getting A Multiplayer Racing Mode

If you’ve ever played Microsoft Flight Simulator, you’ll know it’s a calm, eloquent experience that allows you to experience conventional flying. However, thanks to a new upcoming mode, players will be able to race each other around the world in a true competitive fashion [via ScreenRant].

That’s right, thanks to a partnership between Microsoft and the Reno Air Racing Association, Flight Simulator is getting a fully-fledged competitive racing mode. As you’d expect, players will be able to race across the world in a variety of different aircraft. However, in addition to the multiplayer mode, Flight Simulator is also getting helicopters in 2022. Therefore, you’ll be able to reenact your favourite action scenes with your friends. Personally, I’m going with either Con Air or Hanna-Barbera’s Stop That Pigeon.

In a way, it’s kind of surreal seeing Microsoft Flight Simulator evolve into such a diverse title. While the game was once a PC enthusiast experience that required flight sticks and niche interests, it’s now something anyone can enjoy. Sure, in the grand scheme of things, the game hasn’t changed that much. However, even the fact it’s now on consoles is remarkable.

Who knows, perhaps Microsoft Flight Simulator is about to become the next big esports sensation. Even if the flight sim novelty does wear off, it’s definitely nice to see Microsoft experimenting with its IP.
