Microsoft Renews Fable Trademark With ‘Intent To Use’

Microsoft has seemingly renewed its trademark for the beloved RPG series, Fable, noting that the company has done so with “intent to use,” sparking rumours of an upcoming game reveal from Xbox.

As spotted IGN, the Intent to Use filing means that Microsoft must prove plans to use the trademark within six months of filing, or they’d then have to apply for an extension.

It’s fairly normal for companies to renew their trademarks to protect their intellectual property, but filing with intent to use could suggest we might be seeing a Fable reveal in the coming weeks.

This isn’t the first time we’re hearing new news of a potential Fable announcement. Earlier this week, it was noted that the Twitter handles for both Fable and Perfect Dark had been re-secured by Microsoft.

As noted by The Verge’s Tom Warren, both “@fable” and “@PerfectDarkGame” were snapped up, with the name “Placeholder” plastered on both. According to Warren, a “Microsoft Xbox employee is following one, and the other is registered to a Microsoft email address.”

Xbox’s very own Aaron Greenberg stepped in to quash the flow of rumours. Greenberg did confirm that the accounts are in the hands of Xbox, but went on to break hearts all over the world with his next statement.

Greenberg tweeted: “I know everyone is hungry for news, but sorry to get your hopes up. These accounts have been inactive for years, it’s standard practice to secure social handles for our IP.”

Of course, if you’re looking to announce a big game like Fable, you’re not going to just announce it on the fly.
