Minecraft’s highly-anticipated Nether Update is now available for you to download and enjoy. The update invites you to explore the Nether, and promises a deep, dark and tough-as-nails take on the classic game.
Sharing the news across its social media channels, Minecraft confirmed the new update has now begun “rolling out on Java and Bedrock today!” (Translated, that’s Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows 10, and more on the Bedrock version, and Windows, Mac OS, and Linux on the Java version.)
The Nether update will see you battling or bartering with Piglins and salvaging netherite scrap. Netherite is Minecraft’s new material, and since it’s stronger than diamond, you’ll definitely want to get some armor crafted from this!
You’ll also have to contend with the new mob: Hoglins, and they can provide a serious challenge if you’re not equipped to take them on.
Minecraft describe the updates as follows: “The Nether Update brings the heat to an already fiery dimension with new biomes, mobs, and blocks. Discover Netherite, a powerful new material that makes diamond look like cobblestone. Beware the Piglins as you either trade blows or strike a deal.
“Avoid the hideous Hoglins, or hunt them for a snouty snack. Explore the Nether Wastes, search the Soulsand Valleys, traverse the Basalt Deltas, or venture into the Crimson and Warped Forests. But don’t forget to craft a respawn anchor. You know, just in case. It’s not like you’re going to get knocked into lava, or have a heated argument when bartering with a Piglin. Not at aaall… *breaks into evil, maniacal laughter*”
There’s also a new free map for Bedrock players, Way of the Nether, which Minecraft describes as follows: “A dimensional rift has appeared overnight in Poppy Isle and the mayor has gone missing! It’s up to you to venture into the Nether and figure out what happened.”
