Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale mode has been the worst-kept secret in gaming, but it’s finally been officially announced. Hooray!
Entitled “Warzone,” the BR mode will be making its way into Modern Warfare March 10, 2020. If you log into the game right now, you’ll be greeted with a countdown timer telling you just how long left you’ve got to wait.
For those who don’t own Modern Warfare, you’ll be able to play as per the map below.
Warzone was announced by Activision, who is promising some seriously hardcore action for even the most seasoned Battle Royale player. Whether or not the new mode will put a dent in the current titans of the BR industry, Fortnite and PUBG, remains to be seen.
Like lots of other BR games, Warzone will be free to play, meaning you can still dive in even if you don’t have Modern Warfare.
Warzone has been a long time coming, and we’ve been seeing leaks and rumours of its existence before MW even launched. The biggest leaks came just hours before the game’s reveal, showing off its 150 person map, trios, MW2 locations and Gulag respawns.
With so many leaks and such a long waiting period, lots of CoD players already feel the BR hype ship has already sailed.
One player tweeted: “I feel like COD has missed a golden opportunity for Warzone release. I think many people are fading away from even caring about it anymore and they probably won’t even waste the reinstall time to try it.”
Another lamented: “I have no faith in @InfinityWard or #ModernWarfare for a #BattleRoyale…We know the #cod franchise does not delay release for quality.”
But I cant hope anymore. I have no faith in @InfinityWard or #ModernWarfare for a #BattleRoyale even if there is 1, the only reason its not out is it sucks and they know it. We know the #cod franchise does not delay release for quality. At this point just wish blackout was xplay
