Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios might be developing a Monster Hunter Like co-op game, according to Games Beat’s Jeff Grubb.
On a recent episode of his show Grubbsnax, journalist and rumour specialist Grubb has claimed Microsoft is working on a Monster Hunter style game. “They’re working with Certain Affinity on what seems like a Monster Hunter style game – a Monster Hunter clone,” said Grubb. “They see this gameplay style succeeding, and Microsoft’s like, ‘hey, we should try to make one of those, is anyone out there going to pitch one?”
“They want more variety in the kinds of games they’re putting on Game Pass and this is an example of that. They’re like, ‘we probably can’t get Monster Hunter on Game Pass – that would be pretty expensive – but we definitely want a game like that, because we see the potential for that to grow and be a big thing with long-term support.”
Certain Affinity, who have most frequently assisted on Halo titles, announced last February that they are working on a brand new IP. The studio is helmed by former Halo online and multiplayer lead Max Hoberman. And a number of former Bungie employees work there too.
“We have been building towards this project for the past few years,” said Hoberman at the time on Certain Affinity’s website. “We’re thrilled to have signed an agreement to lead development on our most ambitious title to date. This game is our creative vision to lead and our team is exceptionally passionate about it.”
A Monster Hunter style game would certainly do well on Game Pass. Dauntless, another Monster Hunter style game, is available on Xbox. But the game is free-to-play, and is multiplatform. Xbox having their own take on Monster Hunter’s co-op gameplay would certainly be a big drawn for the console.
