AI: The Somnium Files – Nirvana Initiative, the sequel adventure game, has gotten a new trailer, and a release date confirmed for later this year.
The followup to 2019’s AI: The Somnium Files will be arriving on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch on June 24, 2022. In the original game, you played as Special Agent Kaname Date in a technologically advanced, near-future Tokyo.
But in the sequel, you will play as Special Agent Mizuki, who appeared in the first game. And Special Agent Ryuki, and both their AI companions. Players will work to solve a mysterious case of Half Body serial killings that take place both in the real and virtual worlds.
“Six years ago, the right half of a corpse was discovered,” developer Spike Chunsoft describes the game. “The left half was never found…until six years later, completely fresh with no signs of decay. Now, Special Agents Mizuki and Ryuki, along with their AI partners Aiba and Tama, are tasked to solve the bizarre Half Body serial killings while unveiling the mysterious plot known only as the Nirvana Initiative…”
Kotaro Uchikoshi, creator of the Zero Escape series, is once again returning as scenario writer for Nirvana Initiative.
The original AI: The Somnium Files generally received favourable reviews from critics upon its release. Many praised the plot and strong writing, and the voice acting was considered very well done. There was some criticism of some sleasier jokes that were found in the game. So it will be interesting to see if those criticisms are addressed in the sequel.
