The Last of Us and Uncharted developer Naughty Dog reportedly started work on an unannounced new game last year in 2020.
The news comes via the LinkedIn pages of two Naughty Dog developers, as spotted by TwistedVoxel.
Towards the end of 2020 Naughty Dog promoted several of its employees within the studio and as a result several LinkedIn profiles have been updated.
Two LinkedIn profiles in particular have caught the eye of eagled-eyed gamers and it was here that an unannounced new Naughty Dog game was seemingly discovered.
The two LinkedIn profiles in question belong to Vinit Agarwal and Richard Cambier, both of whom were Lead Designers before being promoted by Naughty Dog to the roles of Co-Game Director and Game Director respectively. Co-Game Director and Game Director are definitely big roles, but what exactly are the duo directing?
Apparently both Agarwal and Cambier were promoted to their new roles back in September of 2020, around the same time that a number of company shifts took place. It’s heavily speculated that the job changes coincide with a new Naughty Dog project entering development. Robert Krekel, Audio Director at Naughty Dog, explains they themselves began working on an unannounced ND project back in August 2020, as seen on their LinkedIn.
While The Last of Us Part 2 did not ship with a multiplayer mode, the multiplayer is expected to arrive this year. Last year newly-crowned co-president of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann teased its pending arrival.
With Naughty Dog having around 400 employees I would imagine that many of them will be hard at work developing the multiplayer that we already know about, so this rules out this being an “unannounced project”.
So what would this “unannounced project” listed on LinkedIn be? Naughty Dog certainly has enough developers on its team to have multiple projects on the go.
Could it be a new Uncharted? An upgraded version of The Last of Us Part 2 for PS5? Perhaps even The Last of Us 3? Heck, it could even be a new IP!
At this stage we must take all rumours with a pinch of salt but it’s fun speculating nonetheless. Please let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
