Netflix has officially confirmed that a live-action One Piece series will be making its way to the streaming platform.
As revealed in a press release, Netflix “has partnered with Tomorrow Studios and Shueisha to bring this pirate adventure story from Japan to audiences around the world.
“The original manga, written by Eiichiro Oda, has captivated fans for many years and sold over 460 million copies.”
We don’t yet have a release date for the show, but we do know it’s going to be ten episodes. For now, at least.
Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) has been confirmed as the series showrunner, with Eiichiro Oda executive producing. Oda will also be joined by Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios (Cowboy Bebop, Snowpiercer, Hanna) as producers.
In other news, Netflix has confirmed the first story details of its upcoming anime movie, The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf. The news comes straight from Roach’s mouth, as the Netflix website is now showing a listing for the recently-announced movie.
Over on the website, the official description for The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf reads as follows: “Long before mentoring Geralt, Vesemir begins his own journey as a witcher after the mysterious Deglan claims him through the Law of Surprise.”
Although an anime-style prequel that focuses on Vesemir might not be up everyone’s alley, it’s definitely sounding exciting to me!
Other details from the listing are pretty unsurprising. The movie’s genres are categorised as follows: “Anime Action,Sci-Fi & Fantasy Anime,Anime Feature Films,Action & Adventure,Sci-Fi & Fantasy,Action Sci-Fi & Fantasy.”
The movie was only announced very recently, so we’ve yet to see any artwork for the project. However, fans are definitely more than ready for some new The Witcher content in their lives!
As with the One Piece series, we’re yet to get a release date.
