Supermassive Games has been showing off its upcoming new horror game, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, for the last few months and now it’s finally gotten a release date.
The spiritual successor to 2015’s astonishingly great horror game Until Dawn will be releasing August 30, 2019.
Man of Medan is the first game in The Dark Pictures Anthology, which Supermassive describes as “a series of intense, standalone horror games.”
The game’s official description reads as follows: “The story of Man of Medan starts off on a dive boat in the South Pacific. With a rumoured WWII wreck to find, and plenty of on-deck partying to be had, our group of 4 young Americans and their skipper Fliss get ready for what should be the trip of a lifetime…but it doesn’t go quite to plan.
“As the day unfolds, and a storm rolls in, they find themselves trapped on board a ghost ship. Subjected to unimaginable stress and terror, they must try to find a way to escape the ship and its sinister history.”
GameByte got to try out a snippet of Man of Medan at EGX last year, and it played with the same anxiety-inducing tension that Until Dawn provided, except with a whole new series of spooks to really get your skin crawling.
Speaking of Until Dawn in an interview with GameInformer, Supermassive’s CEO and executive producer, Pete Samuels, said: “After Until Dawn, [many] started to request a sequel, and it still happens today, so we know there is a fanbase that likes this kind of thing,
“A lot of [creating the anthology] is about our desire to serve that fanbase from our perspective and to serve us ourselves in what we love to do, which is do more stories and characters, and do it more frequently than one or two every few years.”
Man of Medan is coming to PS4, Xbox and PC on the 30th August 2019.
