The next PGA Tour game is set to celebrate the 150th anniversary of The Open Championship by returning to the classic Old Course in St Andrews.
While football might not be coming home, Golf certainly is. EA has announced the return of the PGA Tour games, and you’ll be able to visit where the sport began.
In celebration of the Championship’s 150th anniversary, St Andrews Links has been recreated in high fidelity. EA tells us that the recreation will celebrate huge milestones while honouring the course’s long history in the sport.
In addition to the iconic course, the new PGA Tour will include the return of fan favourite gameplay mechanics. Most notably, the three-click swing method will feature once again, alongside analogue and other new swing mechanics.
It’s the first PGA game in seven years!
Chief Executive of the R&A [Royal and Ancient Gold Club in St Andrews], Martin Slumbers, says, “We could not be happier to partner with EA to bring golfers and players from all over the world to our celebration of The 150th Open via EA SPORTS PGA TOUR.
“EA SPORTS plays an important role in taking golf to a wider audience through its highly realistic and immersive game,” [via BusinessWire].

The new PGA Tour is set to release in Spring 2022 and will be the first PGA Tour game to release since 2015. We’ll apparently hear much more about the project in the coming months, potentially at EA Play Live next week.
In a press release, EA had this to say about its upcoming title:
“Inspired by The Open’s rich history and historic 150th championship, EA SPORTS looks to its own long history of making golf video games since 1990 to inspire their next generation golf experience.”
