Animal Crossing: New Horizons may be one of the biggest games of 2020 (so far), but here in the West there’s a surprising lack of official AC merch. Fans of the game are now looking to rectify that by petitioning Nintendo and Build-A-Bear to collab on a new collection of stuff-your-own plushies.
The Change.org petition was originally started just before New Horizons launched, and has received a lot of attention with more than 6,500 signatures at the time of writing.
The petition’s creator, Mark Gonzalez, writes the following: “I think Animal Crossing fans of all ages would like to buy or even create one of their favorite characters from the game series. These would include characters such as, Isabelle, Tom Nook, Kapp’n, Blathers, and so many more. I also believe the fans would enjoy being able to play the upcoming title , ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’, alongside their favorite soft fluffy character from the game.”
Though New Horizons has been out for a while now, there’s still a LOT of people who want a cuddly Nook of their very own. The petition continues: “This collaboration could also benefit both companies. Build-A-Bear would receive more customers from the Animal Crossing community, and Nintendo would receive extra advertisement and attention to customers to purchase the new game.”
It’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that this could actually someday happen – especially if there’s enough interest from fans of the series. Build-A-Bear has teamed up with Nintendo on a few occasions now, offering Pokémon characters, as well as a number of friendly faces from the Super Mario family.
The ball’s in your court with this one, Nintendo and Build-A-Bear! If you’re keen to show your support, you can sign the petition right here.
