Nintendo has launched a missions and rewards system for Nintendo Switch Online users.
Shadow dropped yesterday (March 1), Nintendo Switch Online users now have some new ways to customise their profiles. Players will be able to partake in weekly missions from Nintendo to earn Platinum Points. The company has used this as a digital only currency for a while now, with the option of using them to get physical rewards from the My Nintendo Store.
Platinum Points can net things like calendars or keyrings for free, only having to pay shipping charges. Or in-game items for games like Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. And now as part of this new missions and rewards system, players can get new icons to change up their user avatars.
The icon elements feature characters, frames, or background, which let users make a unique icon. Apparently the theme will be different month to month, and new icon elements will be released each week. The icons available currently will be purchasable with Platinum Points until April 3, and include icons from Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Highlights from each include Dom, the jock sheep, from Animal Crossing. And players can get Mario as a cheep cheep from Super Mario Odyssey.
Missions do not sound that complicated either. Right now, there are tasks like playing a game that has online features, or playing a NES game from the Nintendo Switch Online collection. And just playing a game a week will get players 30 Platinum Points.
Players will need an active Nintendo Switch Online account to partake in the missions. And you can find out what they are from the Nintendo Switch Online app from the home screen. Nintendo has also released a post going into more detail on how the system works.
