Devolver Digital has finally confirmed the release date for one of the best indies of the year, Loop Hero, on Nintendo Switch next month.
Loop Hero had a general release date of winter when the Switch port was announced earlier this year. But we now know it’ll be arriving on the hybrid console December 9.
Devolver Digital announced the news with a trailer, accompanied by a scratchy voice over. Loop Hero was announced to be coming to Switch in an Indie World presentation back in August. So it’s great to finally get a definitive release date.
If you aren’t familiar with Loop Hero, you should definitely consider picking it up on Switch. It’s an endless RPG, reminiscent of idle games, and some deck building thrown in for good measure. The world is a post-apocalyptic one, where everyone is struggling to survive. Rather than playing as the hero, you place cards down on the loop to produce enemies for the hero to face. Strategy is important, as is picking the right items for your adventurer.
It’s easily one of the best indies of the year. The graphical style is reminiscent of 80s pixel art and point-and-click adventure games. And the score provides an incredibly foreboding atmosphere to an incredibly oppressive world. It’s the kind of game that is perfect for Switch when you want to play a low intensity game in handheld mode. The game is available to preorder on the US eShop with a small discount.
